Quote of the Week

“If you make every game a life and death proposition, you're going to have problems. For one thing, you'll be dead a lot.” Dean Smith.

A Word from DistinXion

Weekly Devotional

“If anyone hits you on the cheek, offer the other also. And if anyone takes away your coat, don’t hold back your shirt either.” - Luke 6:29
This can be very challenging to do, but we are responsible to turn the other cheek. In this world filled with evil, be the good. Be the person that takes his responsibility seriously and does not retaliate, but rather you love and give.

Question

How have you reacted to being treated wrongly? When you want to retaliate, how can you
instead respond in a way that honors God?

Message from Coach Thompson

Time Outs

“Be gracious to me, Lord, for I am weak; heal me, Lord, for my bones are shaking….The Lord has heard my pleas for help; the Lord accepts my prayer.”  Psalm 6:2, 9

We all know that a key time-out in the game can be a great thing.  As coaches, it is very easy for us to want to be in total control of everything that happens on a daily basis to key moments in a game.  If we had our druthers we’d be in complete control all of the time.  I think that is how all coaches are wired.  Ultimately though, as Christian coaches, we realize (but don’t want to admit) how little control we really have.

A personal journey with the Lord requires active participation.  We are a lot like our athletes.  Sometimes we are shaken.  Sometimes we get rattled.  When this happens in a game we call time-outs for our teams.  What follows is a private discussion between the coach and the team.  Few people are privy to this conversation.  The point is to go back into the game with a defined adjustment or refocus on the game plan.

In our lives and walk with the Lord, when we are shaken or rattled, the Lord will call for a quick TO - maybe its a :30 or a full, but when he does we need to listen.  If we are going to make the proper adjustments, we have to listen.  To enable the Lord to give us the direction we have to enter into the time-out with an open mind and heart.  This is what our prayer and devotional time is for and if we don’t choose it, the Lord may reach out in a more abrupt manner.  The Lord seeks these time-outs to restore, encourage, and put pieces of our life together so we come out stronger and refreshed to complete the race.

Lord, it is our prayer as coaches this week that you will help us call timeouts if needed in our life.  Help us to look to Christ as our Coach for direction when the game is getting hard, and give us grace not to call the plays ourselves.  Above all - help us listen to your coaching.

Message from Jason Brand & Billy Holder, SW Indiana FCA

Good Morning, I hope you had a relaxing and Blessed Thanksgiving Break.

Let's pray together and and have a great start as we begin a new week.

Lord, I thank you for placing me under people who helped me grow when I was a young Christian. Their influence was important in my spiritual development, so I thank you for them right now- for their patience, their love, their kindness, and their willingness to let me get close enough to really learn how to walk with You.

Now, it's time for me to do this for someone else, so please lead me to a young disciple whom I can begin to show how to walk in the power and authority of Your Word.

I pray this in Jesus name, Amen!
