A Word from DistinXion
Team Camp Dates
Coaches,
My name is Sean Schaefer and I am overseeing the DistinXion Team Development Camps for 2018.
I am reaching out today to inform you that registration for DistinXion Team Development Camps is now available! The DistinXion Team Development Camp Xperience is not your typical team camp. Our camp focuses on the fundamental development of both the individual and the team.
I have linked to the Team Development Camp Flyer below. I have also linked to a PDF file of our Registration Form.
As a reminder, both your Varsity and Junior Varsity teams will be attending camp for free. You also have the opportunity to run your own concessions if you wish.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me or daltonjudd@distinxion.org. From everybody at DistinXion, we thank you for taking on the role of hosting our camp. The use of your facilities is crucial to the enactment of our camps. We appreciate your help!

“May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.” - Psalm 25:21Remember to let your morals guide you. Be the rock that your team or friends need, and never turn your back on someone or something right. He will help you in times of need.
Question 1
How can you exhibit strong integrity on and off the court?
Question 2
Describe a situation during a game where emotions got the best of you. What can you do in the
future to learn from that experience?

Drill of the Week
1 on 1 Corner Close-out Reads
Coach Jordan Petersen of Positionless Basketball joined us again in the Dish Lab to demonstrate a great way to use the Dr. Dish All-Star away from the basket. This is a great way to simulate a closeout situation in transition. Click below to watch a demonstration!

Trust
The major reason why it is so hard to throw our complete trust to the Lord is that our society and our world is so focused on performance. We base so much of what we do as coaches concerning our value, worth, and dignity to our performance and our team’s performance.
I recently talked to our kids at our FCA Huddle. I talked about the disappointment of not winning our Sectional championship game. I then went on to talk about one of our players and his effect on little kids in our feeder program. I told the huddle that little kids that came and watched this particular player didn’t really care about us winning the Sectional or not. They only cared about how this young man took time to come to their games and how he played hard and conducted himself on the court. If he would not have cared or conducted himself poorly on the court, that would have been the legacy that he left for our little kids. That’s not how his season or impact ended though. He will be remembered as a player who cared about little kids and left it all on the floor.
God doesn’t care about our successes or failures; our wins and losses. God only cares about the impacts that we have and the relationships that we foster. He cares about how we live and how we conduct ourselves. He cares about how we bring others to Him. It is hard to trust this, but for us to be successful coaches for Christ we have to live and coach this way.
As you move forward this week Remember to have complete focus and trust in and for the Lord. As the Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men.”

Against the Wind
READY
When a gentle south wind sprang up, they thought they had achieved their purpose; they weighed anchor and sailed along the shore of Crete. But not long afterwards, a fierce wind called the “northeaster” rushed down from the island. — Acts 27:13–14
SET
A centurion named Julius was charged with escorting the imprisoned Paul to Rome. They sailed against Paul’s advice, hoping to reach a new destination before winter. The gentle breeze that blew in encouraged their voyage but then they became trapped in a tremendous fourteen-day storm, costing them their cargo and almost their lives. The majority of those on board had urged the trip forward, and the captain made the mistake of listening to public opinion.
Coaches are subjected to public scrutiny so often that sometimes it seems easier to give in to the “harmless gentle breeze.” However, God’s will is frequently not found in the opinions of the majority. While it is always good to seek the wisdom of godly friends, God’s Word and the Holy Spirit must ultimately determine our course. Remember the words of coach Dan Henning, “Popularity is somewhere between Palm Sunday and Good Friday.” Sometimes in my career, I have allowed the desire for popularity to affect my commitment to Christ, and I have regretted those decisions. How about you?

GO
1. As a coach, do you want your players to respect you more than glamorize you?
2. Do you sometimes make decisions against your better judgment?
3. Sometimes when you are right, do you feel like you are running “against the wind?"

WORKOUT
Dear Lord, please help me to understand that my level of influence is never greater than when I seek Your wisdom rather than the acceptance of men. Give me the wisdom to make good choices in my life, in my career, and in my relationships. Amen.
