A Word from DistinXion
Weekly Devotional
In 2002, Marquette’s football team was 10–0 heading into the final game of the season, facing the possibility of the program’s first championship. But a few days before the game, the coach received a call: sixteen of his starters had been arrested for underage drinking! Team rules dictated alcohol use as punishable by suspension. The next week the coach watched his team’s hopes evaporate into a 63–0 loss while sixteen regular starters stood on the sidelines. Christians are frequently faced with similar decisions. Often doing the right thing is not the easiest, most popular, or most rewarding course of action. Society suggests it’s okay to tell little lies, fudge the numbers, or break commitments. While these actions may make life easier or lead to short-term benefits, they erode our integrity.“For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.” - Galatians 1:10
Question 1
In what areas of your life have you tried to make a compromise when it came to doing the wrong
or right thing?
or right thing?
Question 2
Doing the right thing may not always be applauded, but that doesn’t mean we should avoid it.
Why?

The Hope You Have
It is crazy to think that girls’ teams have already opened up and in a little over two weeks boys’ teams will be hitting the hardwood the week of Thanksgiving. As we start our young seasons let us constantly keep focus on the hope that we all have in Christ.
The season is always full of ups and downs. The pressures of wins and losses will mount. But, truly, we are all without hope if we do not focus on God. Fixing our thoughts and focusing on earthly things will always leave us coming up empty. To be the best coaches that we can be we have to model this for our players - never too high and never too low.
Father, thank you for giving me living hope in Your Son. I thank You for calling me to be a steward of Your grace in the coaching profession. I ask that You help me focus my mind on Your purposes, while upholding a standard of excellence in all that I do. Amen.

Blue Skies
READY
"Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." - John 15:5SET
At a recent track workout, I was struck by how blue and clear the morning sky was. Beautiful, deep blue with not a hint of a cloud in the sky. God used the beautiful sky to remind me of my tendency to shoulder things myself when I see nothing but blue skies...in training, racing, and life. Sometimes life is easy like blue skies and sometimes there are clouds, thunder, and lightning that we must overcome, but our God is always with us. When things are easy, we tend to shoulder things ourselves and can tend to neglect Him, which is exactly what Satan wants. He wants us to neglect God and turn our focus onto ourselves, thinking things like, "I've got this!" But God wants more for us because the truth is...He's got this and everything, good or bad, is so much greater when we're depending on Him instead of ourselves. We need Him ALL THE TIME and we're missing out when we neglect Him and keep ourselves from experiencing His power, peace, joy and abundant life! Are you healthy, strong, enjoying a good season in your sport/life? Or are you injured and/or struggling through a difficult season? The good season can become great and the difficult season can become growth when we press into God and depend on Him instead of our own strength. "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5.
GO
1. Do you tend to neglect God and depend on your own strength when things are easy?2. Do you try to persevere in your own strength when things are hard?
3. What fruit have you seen when you give it all to Him?
