Take Care of Yourself
Coaching takes its toll on coaches both in and out of season. One of the most important things that you can do to help reduce stress and anxiety is to physically and mentally take care of yourself. There is nothing better that you can do for yourself than eating right and getting daily exercise. Being in the best shape that you can be in will only help you as a coach. Putting yourself in the best physical and mental condition will set you up to be the leader that you want to be for your team.
There is no set diet or workout plan that is going to lead to success for everyone. You have to find what works for you. The main point is to find something that works for you and stick with it. Setting a goal to improve your fitness and nutrition practices over the next month will have increased chances for long term success. Here are a couple of tips to take a look at to help you in planning to be better at taking care of yourself.
1. Exercise daily for 20-30 minutes
2. Eat in moderation. Don’t overdo it with anything you eat and don’t wait too long in between meals which can lead to overeating.
3. Don’t drink alcohol, or at least consume very little and in moderation.
4. Find ways to get in extra steps that doesn’t cost you significant amounts of time. EX: Park farther away from the door at work. Take a different route to the copy machine.
5. Utilize opportunities to do things with your kids or teams that incorporate getting in some exercise. EX: Playing catch with your kids. When your team is in the weight-room, get in some push-ups.
6. Search for activities that you and your spouse can do together. EX: Go for a walk. Workout together.
7. Have a workout partner or accountability partner.
8. Set a target goal and time. EX: I will run a 5K this weekend. I will lose 5 pounds by the end of the month.
9. Reward yourself for hitting goals. EX: New pair of shoes. Tickets to a show.
10. PLAN IT. To make sure you're getting in your exercise and eating properly, plan for success. Just like you would do with your coaching. Meal plan each week and have a set time that you are going to get your workout in.

Leave Your Mark
Ready
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, recognized and read by everyone. - 2 Corinthians 3:2Set
One of my favorite childhood memories came on my eleventh birthday, March 15, 1972. I received a gift that would set me head and shoulders above everyone else in the neighborhood. It was something that would make me the envy of all my friends. I received the coolest bicycle in the world—a real "big boy" bike. I'm telling you, it was so shiny and bright! It had a white frame with a blue glitter banana seat, blue glitter handles, and tassels. It was indeed the envy of all my friends. To top it off, it had blue tires. That bike made me the coolest kid in the neighborhood. The coolest thing about the blue tires was that it made me the only kid in town who could lay blue streaks on the sidewalk. The other kids could only lay black. We'd all line up together, race down the sidewalk, and then slam on our brakes to see who could leave the longest mark. Mine was always blue. If there was a blue streak on the sidewalk, you'd know I had been there. I had left my mark, and everybody knew whose it was.
As Christian coaches, God calls us to leave marks on the places that we've been. We are called to influence others for Christ. Whether it is at work, at home, or around the neighborhood, God calls us to live a life that reaches out to others and glorifies Him. We are called to "leave our marks" on our athletes, and that mark needs to look as much like Christ as possible. So today, ask yourself, what kind of mark are you leaving?
Go
1. What opportunities do I have today to "leave my mark"?2. What does it do to athletes and coaches when they see the mark I have left behind?
3. Can I say that the mark I am leaving resembles Christ?

Overtime
Lord, help me to realize that pointing athletes and coaches to You is the highest calling I have. Help me also to see that the greatest goal I can reach is to make an eternal impact on the lives of those You have put in my path. Amen.2019 Coaches Summit
