A Word from DistinXion
Weekly Devotional
“The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the son of God.” — Galatians 2:20You are either considered the example or the exception. You are either living by faith in the son of God and living a life of high character that is demonstrated through your actions, or you are the exception who will speak on his character, but his actions do not correlate. As athletes we want to demonstrate our character through our actions, and then follow up with our words. We have been called to be different.
Question 1
What was a time when you were the example? What was a time when you were the exception?
Question 2
Do you want to be a role model in your community? What are some consequences to not practicing what we preach?

Thank You's
As you start planning for your off-season workouts and your summer schedules, have you sent out your thank-you’s? No matter how you do this it is vital to your success as a coach. Some send texts; some send emails; others send letters; while others send greeting or post cards. Regardless of your format or style, thank-you notes need to be sent.
I always feel that at the end of a long season it is incredibly important to express our gratitude in written form to everyone who helped make your year possible. I think that as you work through this you will find that the process is rewarding and helps you to gain momentum in your planning for the rest of the school year and upcoming summer season. Here are some helpful tips to maximize your time and efforts, as well as be attentive to everyone who helped you along the way.
1. Make a list of those important to thank. This list should include your spouse, assistant coaches, administrators, secretaries, custodians, players, parents, and boosters. Every single one of these groups of people are important to your success. Their support of what you are doing is incredibly important and letting them know you appreciate their support and specifically one or two things that they did is incredibly important.
2. Decide your format. You may want to do hand-written postcard notes or you may decide on letters. Regardless of your format, make a decision and stick to that. I’ve always felt that handwritten carries more weight.
3. Set time aside to do it. This process is going to take some time and you have to set time aside to do it. Don’t put this off. If this is going to take a significant amount of time, break it up into smaller chunks.
4. Hand deliver if possible. While you can mail them and may have to in some instances, dropping them off to these people carries even more weight. It shows them that you are willing to even go the extra mile.
5. Send the Lord a thank-you. You may have just laughed, but whether it is through prayer or you write a note to the Lord, make sure he hears your thanks and appreciation for your abilities to do what you love. Asking his blessing over this project isn’t going to hurt things either.

Unexpected Results
Ready
“Saul, however, was ravaging the church, and he would enter house after house, drag off men and women, and put them in prison. So those who were scattered went on their way proclaiming the message of good news.” — Acts 8:3–4Set
How often have we watched a football game in which one team is leading by six points with a few minutes left, and they decide to go into a “prevent defense”—allowing the other team to march down the field, throw short passes, and score a touchdown in the closing seconds? Or a basketball game in which they double-team the post player who has been scoring all the points, only to have that little point guard who hasn’t made anything all year, hit consecutive three-point shots and win the game? I call those unintended consequences or unexpected results. In the Bible we often see believers persecuted for doing good. God used those situations to expand His kingdom. Phillip, a good example, was chosen along with Stephen to be one of the disciples’ helpers. After Stephen was killed and Saul’s persecution of the church intensified, Phillip went to Samaria (a place he probably would have not visited on his own) to escape. As a result, the gospel was preached in Samaria. Saul and the religious leaders thought persecution would stop the people from believing in Christ, when in fact the persecution resulted in many more coming to faith. Men can try to stop God’s plans, but it won’t work!

1. What are some examples of your actions resulting in totally unexpected results?2. How have you seen God take a difficult situation and make something good happen?
3. How does that affect your trust and faith in Christ?

Overtime
Lord, renew my heart and help me see what You are doing through my life. Help me be willing to go places I would not consider going—like Phillip in Samaria. Please use me. Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross for my sin. May I be bold in sharing Your sacrifice with others. Amen.2019 Southern Indiana FCA Leadership Camp
