A Word from DistinXion
Weekly Devotional
In the Bible, there’s a story about a battle between a boy named David and a giant named Goliath. By the looks of it, it looks impossible for David to beat the giant. But instead of talking about the giant in front of him, he talks about God more. With David’s hope and trust in God, he was able to overcome the giant. Having a Godly perspective will give you Godly optimism.“Focus on your giants and you will stumble. Focus on God and your giants will tumble.”
Question 1
Why is it hard to be optimistic?
Question 2
How do you think you can take your next steps to have faith like David??

The Importance of Telling Your Players You Believe in Them
“I Believe in You”
Four words I wanted to hear so deeply from my coaches growing up.
As a young player, like most, I was influenced heavily by my coaches. Sometimes to my dismay -they molded me into the player I am today. Growing up I never had a coach who was very sympathetic. For the most part I am thankful for that, it made me tough, taught me grit, made me who I am today. But a small part in me thinks if I had a coach at a young age that acknowledged when I needed to be picked up, I would have grown into a more confident adult player . . .

Listen
Whether things are going well; struggling; or up and down, having open lines of communication and your coaching staff is vital. In order to communicate you can’t always be the one talking. When your assistants offer suggestions you have to listen, digest and act. You don’t always have to do what they say or suggest, but the fact that you are listening to their suggestions keeps communication open and builds trust. If you aren’t going to listen to these men or women you have on your staff, why are they on your staff?
When it comes to your team, I don’t think that there is any better way to model leadership than to have an open door policy and to truly listen to what your team has to say. You should even be proactive and seek input from your captains about how the team is doing and suggestions for ways to improve things. Again, you don’t always have to act. You don’t always have to jump at what they tell you, but this shows them that you value their input and you are in this thing together.
In our spiritual journey we should be listening to what the Lord tells us and work to carry out his calling in our lives as coaches. We should not only be reading the Word, but we must intently listen. James 1:22 tells us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Lastly, take time this holiday season to just sit and listen to what the Lord is telling you about your team; about your journey; and about your faith. Taking a time-out is never a bad thing and during the holiday season is a great time to push pause and take a moment to just listen.
Until after Christmas, God Bless, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and don’t forget to LISTEN.
Message from Jason Brand & Billy Holder, SW Indiana FCA
Good Morning and Merry Christmas to you all!
I pray you received some rest and strength this weekend. Let's pray.
Lord, I thank you for coming to Earth so You could redeem me. When I think of the extent to which You were willing to go in order to save me, it makes me want to shout, to celebrate, and to cry with thankfulness. You love me so much and I am so grateful for that love. Without You, I would still be lost in my sin. But, because of everything You have done for me, today I am free; my life is blessed; Jesus is my Lord; Heaven is my home! Thank You God! I will be eternally grateful. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!
I love you all
